feministart

Art for feminist women.

I think that the whole "you have a mission should you choose to accept it" approach to getting people to do arting is one of the most awesome ideas ever. I have lately been a tad fixated on goddesses- I have 2 paintings that are inspired by Yemaya and Oshun, two goddesses in the Yoruba and also Caribbean traditions (santeria, etc.) and I keep sort of coming out with these little Kali (hindu) goddesses that I've been pretty pleased with, one of which is now the cover of my sketch diary.

So I guess what I am saying is that for my couple of readers here, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to incorporate the goddess of your choosing/understanding into a piece of your art this week (journal, painting, what have ya) and then let us see it here. I am trying to figure out how to put a creative commons thing on this page so that folks can't steal any art from it and we can't steal each other's art, just to be careful, but to be honest I haven't had time to do that yet. So even if you ain't comfy putting up a picture then you could maybe tell us which goddesses speak to ya, whatever.

I'm totally athiest, by the way. Still fixated on the goddess image thing. My favorite is to syncretize goddesses, like how I did the Kali from my sketch diary as a "madonna and child," or what have you.

Anything else? No, I just need to go to bed 'cause I'm doing that weird falling asleep while typing thing.

Objectives for the rest of the week: avoid hurricanes. Invite more folks to the feminist art network. Post pics of painting progress. And also, to eat cookies.

MMMM. Cookies.
